Parasol
Knowledge bases for an offline world
Parasol is collection of open-source mobile apps which allow people to discover, download, and read knowledge-bases locally on their mobile devices. Everything works as normal when online, but Parasol thrives especially in places with unstable internet or totally offline scenarios. People may submit feedback to the creators of knowledge-bases as well as receive alerts about new information in the apps whenever they are online.

Use Cases
Our vision for Parasol is a collection of apps which allows the creation, organization, and sharing of well organized helpful bundles of knowledge which can be accessed entirely offline.
Offline Wiki
EOTL was born from sustainability activists and privacy wingnuts who simultaneously have their eyes on eco-collapse and wish to avoid the gaze of FVYE, their creepy corporate cronies, and other surveillance states.
Digital Security
If you work in training people how to digitally secure themselves, or other risk-based scenarios Parasol's offline first privacy conscious design will be very beneficial to your students. The following trainers are currently use Parasol.
Documentation
Ever find yourself in the situation where your Linux laptop has a bug with booting and you are unable to access all your well organized notes about how to fix your Linux system or simply be jamming on some code and the internet goes out? Well, we hope Parasol can eventually help here.

About
EOTL has been exploring this idea for some time. Our websites are built with an intentionally to be easily sharable in an offline fashion.
The initial Parasol mobile apps are hard forks of the Umbrella codebases which were created by Security First. In addition to minor aesthetic and usability updates, the biggest difference is our forked apps now download their knowledge-bases from a self-hosted Nextcloud instance instead of a stand-alone Tent server as the Umbrella apps do. This allows anyone who already runs a Nextcloud server to start hosting Parasol knowledge-bases immediately without needing to deploy and configure a new web service.
Codebases
If you would like to contribute code, UX testing, translations, create knowledge bases, or in some other way- we would love to hear from you. All our code is hosted on the non-profit git hosting platform Codeberg. The repositories for our apps can be found there.
Support
Initial funding for these forked Parasol apps came from the Kurve Wustrow e.V. and is being stewarded by EOTL Collective for the time being. If you are interested in supporting future development monetarily, please write to us, we would love to talk further.
